Our Plastic Seas

Interactive installation

Our Plastic Seas is an immersive, interactive art installation that highlights the escalating crisis of ocean plastic pollution. Utilising real-time motion tracking, the exhibit transforms visitors’ silhouettes into figures ensnared by accumulating bits of plastic detritus and discarded nets, symbolising the entrapment of marine life, while also shedding plastic particles to underscore the pernicious effects of microplastics in the marine environment.

As visitors remain, the scene gradually shifts from a pristine underwater environment to one overwhelmed by plastic debris, reflecting the pervasive and destructive nature of pollution. This experience prompts viewers to consider their role in the environmental crisis and inspires action to reduce ocean plastic pollution.

Boiling Point was commissioned for the BOIL Climate Festival hosted at Serralves Contemporary Art Museum in Porto, Portugal, in September 2024
