IN/ORGANIC

Digital prints on paper

IN/ORGANIC explores the tension between the natural world and the synthetic algorithms used to emulate its forms. This series of artworks examines how the organic beauty of nature can be depicted using artificial, computational processes.

Each piece begins as a collection of tiny seed spheres, their colour and density derived from photographs of natural patterns: autumn leaves, lichen on rocks, beach sand, mineral veins in stone, or the play of light on water. These spheres are given basic "life" instructions: grow as large as possible; if you encounter a neighbour, move away. Through thousands of growth simulation cycles, the system evolves into a state of equilibrium, where each sphere finds its optimal size and position.

The resulting patterns echo growth phenomena seen across nature, from microscopic scales such as bacterial colonies and cellular structures to macroscopic ones such as leaf arrangements and animal skin textures. These emergent forms interact with the original photographic data, creating shifting waves and intricate lines of colour, light, and shape.

With these artworks, I aim to create something that feels alive, using the most artificial tools possible—simple algorithms, stylised computer-generated rendering, and code. This exploration seeks to answer the question: What is the minimum requirement to evoke a sense of life? By distilling organic patterns to their simplest computational essence, I hope to blur the boundaries between the organic and the synthetic.

Each artwork is a unique piece, Giclée printed on matte, archival exhibition-quality paper.
